Abinader inaugurates public works and industry and mega store in the Punta Cana area

President Luis Abinader was in La Altagracia province on 4 October 2023 for a busy day attending the inaugurations of three public works, a large industry and mega store.

The day started with the President attending the formal opening of the RD$920 million Parque Industrial del Este in Paraje Los Quemados, San Rafael del Yuma, half an hour west from Punta Cana. The company manufactures cement products with state-of-the-art equipment and technology. The investment will enable Aguayo to double its production. A large share of the production is sold for hotel and residential constructions in the Punta Cana area.

In San Rafael del Yuma on the same day, President Abinader attended the inauguration of a center for the elderly hosted by the National Elderly Council director, José García.

President Abinader attended the inauguration of a branch of Almacenes Unidos in Punta Cana, one of the largest hardware and general department stores in the country. The branch is located on the Boulevard Turístico de Punta Cana. Juan José Fernandez, president of Almacenes Unidos, served as host. The opening responds to the major development of Punta Cana as more Dominicans and foreigners establish first and second homes in the area.

Abinader was present for the formal opening of the Cabeza de Toro tourist and fishing pier, together with Jean Luis Rodríguez, director of the Dominican Port Authority (Apordom). The project is expected to benefit area fishermen and serve sports fishing.

The port is part of the Cabeza de Toro Yacht Club, a branch of the Santo Domingo Yacht Club (Club Nautico). President Abinader spoke of the importance of small investments, such as this pier that will help improve the sport fishing that is practiced in that part of the country and that periodically attracts hundreds of people to that place.

“This is the balance that we have in our government for the fishermen of the area who did not have a stand for them, and that combination is what really makes a great destination in this sector of Punta Cana and in the country,” he said.

The pier has two breakwaters, four gangways, a recreational gazebo with a total area of 203.65 m2 and has a capacity for five vessels of greater draft and 22 vessels of lesser draft, simultaneously. It also has a metallic superstructure.

The objectives of this dock is to improve the living and working conditions of the community of the East zone; to generate more jobs, investments and welfare for those who live from fishing, stated the executive director of the Fishing and Aquaculture Council (Codopesca), Carlos Then.

President Abinader also inaugurated the Community Technology Center (CTC) in San Rafael del Yuma, with an investment of more than RD$20 million. It targets 4,500 young people.

On the same day, President Abinader also participated in the opening of the 46th Meeting of the Technical Commission (RCT) of Ministers of Labor from Latin America and the Caribbean taking place in Punta Cana.
