Milton Ray Guevara to President Abinader: Keep special interests out of the Constitutional Court

The president of the Constitutional Court, Milton Ray Guevara sent a written message in which he urges President Luis Abinader to have the vision to keep special interests out of the highest ranking court of the Dominican Republic. The National Council of the Magistracy, in which President Abinader has a deciding vote, needs to choose five justices this December 2023 to replace the retiring members of the court, including Ray Guevara himself.

In an interview by Manuel Conde for Catedra Juridica, Ray Guevara says that the new members need to stay in tune with the principles of adherence to the Constitution and to sovereignty that have prevailed in the first 12 years of the Constitutional Court.

Ray Guevara says that the President has the enormous privilege and serious responsibility of providing the makeup that guarantees that the court does not become a court for special interests, one responding to economic groups, or one that moves away from the nation founding father, Duarte principles.
