The favorites to win, the Caribbean Queens of volleyball once again delivered the gold at a Pan American Games. The Dominican senior women’s team had won the gold medal at the 2019 Pan Am Games held in Lima, Peru.
The Dominican women’s volleyball team defeated Brazil 26-24, 25-16, and 25-15 to take the title. They won all their five matches and lost only one set in the entire tournament.
Niverka Marte of the Dominican team was voted the Most Valuable Player of the Pan Am volleyball competition.
Brazil is ranked third in the world in senior women’s volleyball by the International Volleyball Federation (FIVB). Brazil and the United States sent B teams to the Pan Am Games. The Dominican Republic competed with its A team. The DR is ranked eighth in the world.
