30 eggs for 100 pesos

City residents will gain now that the government has reached an agreement with egg producers to sell eggs cheaply through Inespre programs at leading supermarket chains. There is an excess of egg supply now that exports to Haiti are banned. Haiti for decades has been a major market for local poultry and egg producers.

The Abinader administration ordered the sale of 30-unit egg cartons for 100 pesos on Thursday, 2 November 2023 in 76 supermarkets nationwide. Sales will be made through the “Feed with Inespre in the Supermarket” program and will be available in the Jumbo, Nacional, Plaza Lama, Carrefour, Garrido and Olé supermarkets.

The eggs are from producers in Dajabón and other provinces in the border area and the Cibao region that are impacted by the closure of the border with Haiti.

Iván Hernández Guzmán, director of the institution, reported that the sale of eggs for 100 pesos in supermarkets began this Thursday as a pilot plan and could be extended for several weeks depending on the level of reception and the guidelines set by the Presidency of the Republic. The Presidency seeks to impact the effects of the shutdown of the Haitian market for local producers.
