
The countdown to the ten millionth tourist to visit the Dominican Republic in 2023 has officially begun. To push this along even more, the Abinader administration has initiated a new publicity campaign to encourage even more people to come and visit us. As of October, the country has received 8,245,190 tourists from air, land and sea.
President Luis Abinader started the new campaign before heading to Washington, D.C., to see President Joe Biden and participate in a regional heads of government summit and activities on Thursday and Friday, 2 and 3 November 2023.
In his remarks, President Abinader noted how the influx of tourists was well managed by the private sector and cited the economic and social benefits at all levels of commerce, from the big hotel complexes to the micro and small businesses. The President announced the opening of a new tourism wharf in Cabo Rojo in southwestern Pedernales, with cruise ships arriving every two weeks at first as of 18 December.
Tourism Minister David Collado noted that 6.5 million tourists have come by air, and 1.7 million have come on cruise ships.
In October 2023, the nation received very close to 620,000 visitors.
