Haitian border gates continue closed to commerce

Nothing much has changed last weekend in the impasse at the border between the Dominican Republic and Haiti. The Haitians allowed Haitian trucks to return on Saturday, 4 November 2023, creating expectations the Haitian side of the border would reopen to trade. Haitians have rejected the new migratory controls in the Dominican Republic that require biometric registration for those crossing from Haiti.

The Haitian government opened the Haitian border gates, allowing the crossing of food and other merchandise on Saturday, 4 November and Monday, 6 November.

Meanwhile, President Luis Abinader remarked during his weekly press conference that people in Haiti benefit from the chaos and are behind the border shutdown.
