Incumbent senator for the National District, the capital city of the Dominican Republic, Faride Raful of the ruling Modern Revolutionary Party (PRM) has gone public asking the top brass of her political party to step forward and announce the choice for senator.
The top brass of the PRM has reserved several key candidacies to choose these in closed door meetings. These include the party’s candidates for the senator for the National District (the capital city of Santo Domingo) and its mayor. But with the deadline being pushed back on several occasions, the PRM has yet to say, and there is much speculation.
Raful has stated she wants to again be the PRM candidate for senator in the National District.
There is speculation on talks the PRM may have held with other possible candidates, including those with the president of Al Pais, Guillermo Moreno. Moreno has said there have been talks with his party, but he has not clarified what is up for grabs. Moreno has said he will not seek the presidency for his party in the 2024 election.
