According to the recent poll by CID Latinoamerica, President Luis Abinader would win the 2024 presidential election in the first round with 54% of the votes. The same poll reveals that if the elections were held on the day of the poll, former three-term President Leonel Fernández, running for the Fuerza del Pueblo, would receive 29%, and Dominican Liberation Party (PLD) candidate, Santiago Mayor Abel Martínez, would receive 15%.
CID Latinoamerica carried out the poll from 20 to 28 November 2023, using a representative sample of the country’s adult population and interviewing 1,200 people face-to-face in their homes. People were asked who they would vote for on that given day.
The survey’s margin of error is plus or minus 2.8 points, calculated with a 95% confidence level.
The poll shows that Luis Abinader has a favorable opinion equal to 61% and an unfavorable opinion of 31%. His contender, former President Leonel Fernández received 46% positive and the same number of negative responses.
The study also established that the Modern Revolutionary Party (PRM) has 41% of potential voters identifying as party followers, thus placing it as the largest political party.
The People’s Force (FP), with 17%, consolidates itself as the second largest party and surpasses the Dominican Liberation Party (PLD), which has 14%. The Dominican Revolutionary Party (PRD) received only 2% support in the poll.
An earlier November Diario Libre-Greenberg poll had indicated Abinader had 49% and that a second round was likely. The margin of error of that survey carried out face-to-face from 12 to 18 November 2023 was 3-3.6%.
