Only 13,267 of 63,467 aspirants to teacher positions in the public school system passed the recent job qualification tests applied by the Ministry of Education.
The Ministry of Education tested teachers from the initial, primary and secondary levels in the Academic and Arts modalities of the educational centers of the 18 regional and 122 districts of the country.
The largest number of participants who passed the tests were registered in regionals 15 and 10 in Greater Santo Domingo and 08 in Santiago.
83% of those taking the tests for the jobs were women, most graduates of the state UASD university.
Deputy Minister of Education for Teacher Accreditation Francisco D’Óleo explained that the competitive exams seek to select the best teachers to guarantee the quality of education with responsible, committed teachers, and with the skills and competencies that today’s society demands.
