Public Health Minister Daniel Rivera urged people to avoid overeating and excesses of alcoholic beverages to prevent getting sick and being involved in a traffic accident over the Christmas holidays.
Dr. Rivera said the Ministry of Public Health in 2024 will continue to educate the population on the importance of embracing a healthy lifestyle to protect the heart and prevent hypertension and diabetes, the main diseases that cause death in the country.
He reminded people that the winter weather creates conditions for respiratory viruses such as influenza, syncytial virus, Covid-19 and other flu diseases. He called for people to take actions to improve immunity and prevent getting sick. Covid-19 cases were up last week from 44 to 106. Dengue is another concern, and prevention works to eliminate breeding mosquitos need to continue.
Likewise, Dr. Rivera called on asthmatic people, atopic patients, and those who follow nutritional diets not to neglect these during the Christmas season and to continue with the pertinent preventive measures. Among measures to avoid getting sick include avoiding closed or poorly ventilated places and those undergoing any respiratory processes should wear masks to protect themselves and others.
“People must accept the call that we make for the good and tranquility of all, given that we are in a time very busy with Christmas, it is recommended that we avoid excesses in every sense of the word, to the prevention of injuries, due to car accidents or some uncontrolled hypertension or diabetes,” added Dr. Rivera.
