
President Luis Abinader in Decree 658-23 declared Wednesday, 3 January 2024 a day of national mourning. The country is mourning the death of star diplomat Frank Hans Dannenberg Castellanos. Dannenberg Castellanos died on Saturday, 23 December 2023 in Montreal, Canada of a heart attack. He had survived a bout with cancer. In November 2023, he had just begun his term as Dominican ambassador to Canada.
He was previously ambassador to India, Russia and Canada. He was also concurrent to Thailand, Malaysia, Vietnam, Sri Lanka, Philippines, Mauritius Island when in India and to Kazakhstan, Armenia, Bielorrusia, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, Mongolia, Moldavia and Tajikistan when in Russia.
He is known for his contributions to the tourism, commercial aviation and international relations.
He was deputy minister of Tourism, executive director of the Association of Hotels of Puerto Plata and commercial director of APA Airline before then President Leonel Fernandez named him ambassador to India.
His transcendental diplomatic career was also marked by his charisma, proactivity, and disinterested human touch, guaranteeing that every Dominican felt welcome at the embassies he directed and even in his own home.
His commitment to service honored the Dominican Republic in foreign lands.
The Abinader administration decree orders flags to fly at half-mast and national mourning on 3 January 2024. His remains will receive a tribute with the highest military honors on that day.
The funeral services for Ambassador Frank Hans Dannenberg Castellanos will take place 3 January at the Blandino Funeral Home on Abraham Lincoln Avenue from 9am and until 4:30pm. The ashes of Dannenberg Castellanos will be transferred at 4:30pm on Wednesday to Columbarios Blandino on Avenida Luperón for burial.
