Cibao Airport celebrates its two millionth visitor

On 28 December 2023, the Cibao International Airport (STI) in Santiago celebrated its 2 millionth passenger.

76-year old Rafael Tiburcio, a Dominican expat living in the United States flew in on a Delta flight 1845 and became the symbolic two millionth passenger. Delta Airlines gave him a US$1,000 credit on a flight and 10,000 miles. Likewise, he received a RD$200,000 cash prize from the airport and a plaque. He is a native from Jarabacoa, La Vega.

Tiburcio said he has been living in the United States for more than 46 years and travels three times a year to the DR. “I will give part of this money to those who have less,” he said when receiving the award.

Félix M. García Castellanos, president of the board of the Cibao Airport thanked the passenger for choosing to fly into the Santiago airport. He had special thanks for Dominican expats in general, who he said make up most of the passengers flying into STI.

Garcia Castellanos also announced the expansion of the airport to double its capacity.
