Update on the Dominican Bar election

The debates on the election of the president of the Dominican Bar continue. An order from the Superior Electoral Court (TSE) called for a recount of the votes, without the last-minute alliance that had benefited Vidal Trajano Potentini, candidate of the opposition political party.

Yohan Lopez of the coalition of parties that included the ruling Modern Revolutionary Party has taken office on the strength of that court order.

Yet, the legality of that step is disputed, and it is said the case will go to the Constitutional Court. The Constitution expressly states that the Superior Electoral Court does not have jurisdiction over elections of guilds.
