A passing frontal system brought constant rains on Monday, 22 January 2024 to Montecristi, resulting in the flooding of several gullies (Tripa del Diablo and Los Pollos), affecting towns in the northwestern province.
Authorities report 455 houses were flooded and 2,300 persons had to leave their homes in the Pozo del Bebe, La Aviacion, Salomon Jorge, Cristo Rey and Hong Kong localities.
Acting Administrative Minister of the Presidency Igor David Rodriguez Duran was sent to Montecristi to see for himself the damages and determine government assistance to the families.
Likewise, the heavy rains affected areas in Puerto Plata.
