A Spanish court decided allegations that her life was in danger if she was deported were not valid for Francelys Maria Furcal. Furcal migrated to Spain via Brazil, after she involuntarily murdered a Chinese national. She stabbed her superior, a Chinese man, in a Chinese-owned shop in uptown section of Avenida Duarte in Santo Domingo.
After the murder, she disappeared, leaving the way to ample speculation as to where she was and if she was alive or dead.
The Spanish court cleared the way for her extradition so she can stand trial in the DR for the homicide.
Furcal has admitted she killed the man. In April 2022, a store surveillance video showed her having an argument with her Chinese superior and how she took a knife from a shelf and stabbed the mancausing him a wound that end his life.
“I have three small children who depend on me. At work, I received a lot of abuse. They will tell me: Why didn’t you leave your job? But if I have three children, I have to support them because I am a single mother. My God, I don’t use drugs, I am not a criminal; I just wanted to work. For what I have committed, I do not deserve a bad death,” she argued in her defense.
For the magistrates, however, the mere fact that she expressed fears for her integrity was not enough to deny extradition to the country.
Furcal was arrested in August 2023 in the Tetuán district of Madrid. She had dyed her hair and was using false documentation that showed she was Colombian and had a different name. She obtained the fake identification when making a stopover in Colombia. From Colombia, she traveled to Brazil and from there to Spain.
International collaboration lasted for months and suggested that the fugitive had moved to Spain.
