Updates on corruption cases re Jean Alain Rodriguez and Juan Carlos Torres Robiou

Former Attorney General Jean Alain Rodriguez in the Medusa case and former director of the Tourism Security Corps (Cestur) Juan Carlos Torres Robiou in the Coral and Coral 5G cases are the exceptions to the corruption cases in which almost all accused have been allowed to post bonds. In contrast, their cases continue at the slow pace of the Dominican judiciary. The legal defense of the accused are also responsible for several postponements of hearings.

In the case of corruption against Rodriguez, Judge Amauri Martinez of the Third Court of Instruction of the National District ordered that he continue under domiciliary arrest and to use electronic shackles. Rodriguez’s lawyer Nelly Rivas, said they will appeal.

Rodríguez is the main defendant in the corruption case called Operation Medusa, which has a 12,274-page file prepared by state prosecutors. Rodriguez is accused of being the head of a corruption structure when he was Attorney General from 2016 to 2020 during the Danilo Medina presidency.

Air Force General Juan Carlos Torres Robiou is also under house arrest and shackles, and Judge Gisselle Méndez disallowed a change in the preventive measures. Torres Robiou is accused of being part of the corrupt military networks dismantled by the Attorney General in 2021 in several state institutions. The corruption cases are named Coral and Coral 5G.
