The Presidency announced the newly created Dominicana Plantain Committee (Codoplatano) is now entrusted with drafting and supervising actions to promote the production of plantains in the north, southwest and northwest regions where most of the production is located.

Decree 62-24 establishes that the inter-ministerial committee will support the production and marketing of plantains and make recommendations to the Presidency for public policies that promote plantain farming, marketing, processing and exporting.

The members of Codoplátano are the ministers of Agriculture, Environment, Industry & Commerce, and the administrators of the state-owned Banco Agrícola and Banco de Reservas. The directors of Indrhi, Inespre, ProDominicana and the Dominican Agrarian Institute. For the private sector, the president of the Dominican Association of Plantain Producers (Adoplatano) and two representatives of the cooperatives or associations of plantain producers from the ten regions of the country are part of the new task force.

Codoplatano was created when there was an increase in plantain consumption worldwide, which presents an opportunity for the Dominican Republic to become a stable and safe source of plantain marketing.

The committee seeks to ensure the application of new practices of good crop management and the environmental sustainability required to make the activity competitive.
