New Dominican Chamber of Commerce in Guyana; new direct flights to Georgetown

Leading Dominican energy businesspeople Rolando Gonzalez Bunster, president of Inter Energy Holdings and Roberto Herrera, director and country manager of Interenergy Group, were in Georgetown, Guyana for the official launch of the Dominican Republic Chamber of Commerce during the Guyana Energy Conference and Supply Chain Expo, as reported in Guyana Chronicle.

Gonzalez Bunster spoke on “Fueling Transformation and Modernization: Building Sustainable Energy Solutions” on 20 February 2024 during the Guyana Energy Conference.

The Guyana Chronicle describes the opening of the new business facilitation entity, the Dominican Republic Chamber of Commerce, as a move to increase the business and trade ties between the Dominican Republic and Guyana.

Delivering remarks on the launching of the chamber of commerce, the Dominican Republic Ambassador to Guyana, Ernesto Torres-Pereyra, said that thus far, the two countries have been able to foster good business relations and have formed great networks over time. He said: “We have also created a very earnest network and very functional line of communication between the business communities and the government agencies.”

Torres-Pereyra added that in just over a year, the two countries have had engagements that included large business delegations. He told the Guyana Chronicle that with this move to establish a chamber, the best is yet to come in terms of business relations between the two countries. “So I earnestly can say the best is yet to come,” the ambassador remarked.

The official opening of the DR Chamber of Commerce coincides with the start of direct flights between Guyana and the Dominican Republic. Sky High Dominicana began on 18 February 2024 three times a week direct flights to Georgetown, Guyana. The flights are from Sky High Dominicana’s main hub at Las Americas International in Santo Domingo to Cheddi Jagan (CJI) in Georgetown.
