
The last one out, close the lights! Foreign staff at the embassies in Haiti that still remain are leaving.
Germany and the European Union have announced staff remaining at their embassies will be leaving Haiti via land gateways with the Dominican Republic. The US has sent troops to further protect their Embassy, where minimal staff remains.
The Dominican ambassador remains in Haiti. The Dominican government is keeping minimal staff in Port-au-Prince. “We are one of three embassies that have an ambassador who is very brave and very committed to public service, Ambassador Faruk Miguel. We are in contact with Dominicans and have assisted these to leave, and the same for diplomats from other countries. We are meeting our responsibility and will always aid Dominicans in difficult situations,” said President Abinader answering a question during the weekly Monday press conference on 11 March 2024.
Meanwhile, CNN Travel reports that all seems to be normal at the Royal Caribbean Labadee private port area in northern Haiti.
