The Ministry of Tourism is going ahead with the IDB project chapter that calls for renovating the Mercado Modelo fresh food and arts and crafts market in the capital city. The market is located on Av. Mella, the northern border of the historic center of the capital city of Santo Domingo.
The Ministry has called for bids for the improvements to the roof, façade and electrical installations as the project for renovation gets its start.
The IDB’s Programa Integral de Desarrollo Turístico y Urbano de la Ciudad Colonial de Santo Domingo (PIDTUCCSD) was signed in 2019 and calls for a loan of US$90 million for renovations in the historic center of Santo Domingo.
The historic center is under intense renovation. At present most of the works are taking place on in the Calle Las Mercedes, and in the block between Luperon and Padre Billini to the north and south and Jose Reyes to Arz Meriño to the west and east.
