Judge Clara Luz Almonte of the Second Criminal Chamber of the National District sentenced lawyer Johnny Portorreal to five years in prison for defrauding the Rosario family members. Portorreal was found guilty of fraud and violating several articles of the Control and Regulation of Weapons Law 631. Portorreal’s lawyers say they will appeal.
Portorreal encouraged those with the Rosario last name to fund his efforts to secure over US$13 billion in a fortune that would be stashed in banks in Switzerland and Spain. 284 Rosario family members pressed claims encouraged by Portorreal.
