Cops try to end street racing in Cibao Central

Agents from Digesett, the General Traffic and Transportation Safety Agency, carried out operations late last week in an attempt to put an end to street racing and reckless motorcycle riding. As reported in Acento, a dozen motorcycles for doing “wheelies” and for racing on the streets.

The traffic officers surprised motorcyclists in different areas of the Cibao, and motorcycles, even scooters (pasolas) and a four-wheel were taken into custody.

The head of Digesett, General Francisco Osoria de la Cruz told reporters that these operations will continue all over the country in an attempt to ensure the safety of pedestrians and the motorcyclists themselves.

To retrieve the motorbikes, the individuals will need to visit the Center for Confiscated Vehicles in Villa Mella, in North Santo Domingo.

Motorcyclists are involved in around 80% of traffic accidents in the Dominican Republic.
