
The defense lawyer of deputy Rosa Amalia Pilarte, wife of also charged Santiago businessman Micky Lopez, said during the hearing before the Supreme Court of Justice that there is no way the charges of his client’s ties to drug trafficking can be proven. The PRM legislator for La Vega is accused of asset laundering for RD$4 billion for drug trafficking operations led by her husband, Miguel Arturo López Florencia (Micky Lopez).
Pilarte’s defense lawyer Amado Gomez says he deposited hundreds of documents that prove the innocence of the legislator. He said the documents evidence the transparency in the management of the money in Pilarte’s bank accounts. He said the documents are evidence that the funds came from farm activities carried out by the Lopez-Pilarte family.
Since 2020, the Pilarte Lopez family members have cases pending in the judiciary. Pilarte’s husband Micky López, and their sons José Miguel López Pilarte, a city councilor for the PRM and Miguel Arturo López Pilarte, and her sister Ada María Pilarte, have been charged of complicity in a drug laundering ring.
The hearing is looking into the transactions carried out by the companies Inmobiliaria Gloria Ivette, SRL., Agropecuaria Gloria Ivette, SRL., Auto Crédito Selecto, SRL and Compañía Serví Crédito Gloria Ivette SRL, allegedly used by the criminal network for the laundering of drug trafficking funds.
