
Most of the Dominican. Republic is under a yellow or green alert as a tropical wave enters the area where it will join a passing trough. Intense and abundant rains are forecast.
The Center for Emergency Operations (COE) issued yellow alerts for 16 provinces in the center and north of the country and placed another 12 under green alert.
Moderate to heavy downpours and thunderstorms are expected for the next 48 hours.
The provinces that are on yellow alert are María Trinidad Sánchez, Duarte, Sánchez Ramírez, Santiago, Santiago Rodríguez, El Seibo, Monte Plata, La Altagracia, Espaillat, Samaná, Monseñor Nouel, La Vega, Puerto Plata, Hato Mayor, Hermanas Mirabal and San José de Ocoa.
Provinces in green in addition to the National District, are Santo Domingo, San Pedro de Macorís, Azúa, Elías Piña, San Cristóbal, La Romana, Valverde, Dajabón, Monte Cristi, Barahona and Peravia.
The COE recommends that people refrain from crossing rivers, streams and ravines that have high volumes of water in the provinces under alert.
