Heavy rain and thunderstorms are expected to continue to impact most of the Dominican Republic on Tuesday, 4 June 2024.
The National Weather Office (Onamet) forecasts more cloudy conditions with showers, sometimes moderate to heavy, thunderstorms, and gusts of wind over most of the southern coast, but also affecting the provinces of La Altagracia, El Seibo, Monte Plata, Hato Mayor, María Trinidad Sánchez, Samaná, Santiago, Puerto Plata, Valverde, Dajabón, and Monte Cristi.
The rains on Monday were due to the passing to the south of the country headed our way from Cuba. Onamet forecasts more showers, especially over the areas on the Caribbean coast. Onamet mentions the Greater Santo Domingo, San Cristóbal, Peravia, San José de Ocoa, Azua, Barahona and nearby areas will be the most impacted.
For Tuesday, 4 June, moderate to heavy showers with thunderstorms and occasional gusts of wind are expected from dawn onwards in localities on the southern coast and northeast of the country. In the afternoon, showers are forecast to be strong and intense in towns located in the southeast, southwest, northwest, and the Central Mountain Range. There is abundant humidity and instability caused by the passage of the tropical wave and a trough at different levels of the atmosphere.
By Thursday, 6 June, another tropical wave system will be affecting the country, thus rains are forecast to continue for most of the week.
Onamet urges people to stay safe and take precautions against heavy rain and thunderstorms.
