Banks to reinforce security after two robberies in 10 days

Major General Ramón Antonio Guzmán Peralta, director general of the National Police, led a meeting on 5 June 2024 with representatives of the security teams of the Association of Multiple Banks of the Dominican Republic (ABA) to review two recent bank branch robberies. The meeting seeks to reinforce security after two bank branch robberies have been carried out in small branches over the past 10 days.

“We will continue to strengthen security throughout the country, especially in areas where bank branches operate,” guaranteed Major General Guzmán Peralta.

The security representatives for banks and Police also agreed to review established security protocols and increase the exchange of information at the national level.

Similarly, it was established that the main priority is to guarantee the security of customers and employees of the financial sector.

Major General Guzmán Peralta was accompanied by General Ernesto Rodríguez García, director of prevention at the National Police. Rodríguez García highlighted the importance of citizen collaboration and inter-institutional coordination to achieve more effective results in matters of security.

Representatives from the Association of Multiple Banks (ABA) met with the director of the National Police to discuss strategies for enhancing security in the financial sector. The ABA expressed their confidence in the Police director’s commitment to protect the industry and the willingness of the Police to collaborate in developing effective crime prevention measures.

During the meeting, both parties acknowledged the importance of maintaining open communication channels and working together to address security challenges faced by the banking sector. They agreed to establish a joint task force to develop and implement comprehensive security strategies.

The ABA delegation included Manuel Gonzalez, technical director of the ABA; Pamela Castillo, director of Communications for the ABA; Ennio López, president of banking security at the Banco Hipotecario Dominicano (BHD); José Luis Guzmán and Juan Esteban Díaz from the Banco Popular Dominicano; Edwin Palin from Banreservas; Juan García from Scotiabank; Alberto Abreu from Proamerica; and Joel Rodríguez from Citibank.

Other representatives present at the meeting were César Ares from the BDI; Edwin Valenzuela from Banco Ademi; Juan Carlos Alvarez from Banco Caribe; Manuel Abreu from Banco Vimenca; Rafael Reyes and Wellington Oliva from Banco Santa Cruz; and Gustavo Sahdala from QIK Banco Digital Dominicano.

Colonel César Ares Montas, Director of Internal Control was also present for the Police.
