Last Thursday, 6 June 2024 was the first year anniversary of Elly de la Cruz’ debut in Major League Baseball. He has established himself as a player that is continuously changing baseball records. So far, his accomplishments, in less than a full 162-game season, have been indeed historic. Only great members of the Hall of Fame in Cooperstown have produced what de la Cruz has done so far, and only five of them at that.
To celebrate his one-year anniversary, the amazing shortstop for the Cincinnati Reds hit a huge homerun into a fan’s cup of beer, exploding the cup and showering all the nearby fans.
As of last Wednesday, Elly de la Cruz, now called EDLC by the press, had 67 stolen bases and 57 extra-base hits, and is the only player since 1900 to ever have 65 plus stolen bases and 50 plus extra-base hits within one year of his major league debut. In his first 160 games, EDLC has hit for .237, with 26 doubles, eight triples, 23 homeruns, and 67 stolen bases. He currently has 11 homeruns, 29 RBIs and 32 stolen bases.
