Telecom company says Metro Santo Domingo builders have caused millionaire damages to cables

Claro Dominicana has denounced the constant excavations for the construction of Metro Santo Domingo’s Line 2C has caused significant damage and financial losses to the company.

The most recent incident attributed to the contractors of the mass transit line occurred this past week with the rupture of more than six cable elements that provide service to more than 1,500 customers located in the Alameda and Los Girasoles sectors and the Los Alcarrizos municipality.

“The backhoes were doing some drilling and at the time we did not have the communication indicating the depth of the cabling and there was no personnel from us there, so evidently the machinery broke the entire cable leads from our telephone central,” Ángel Garrido, Claro’s maintenance manager, told Diario Libre.

The cable rupture occurred on the Duarte Highway near Monumental Avenue, along the route of the metro rail line.

Claro Dominicana has called on Opret (the Metro office) and the contractors involved in the construction work to take the necessary measures to avoid further damage to their infrastructure, which has caused significant economic losses and inconveniences to their customers. The company also expressed concern about the lack of communication and coordination with the authorities responsible for the project.
