The National Drug Control Agency (DNCD), members of the Multimodal Caucedo Port Military Security and Customs inspectors, coordinated by members of the Public Prosecutor’s Office, stopped a shipment of 918 packages of presumed cocaine during an inspection operation carried out at the port that is located in Boca Chica municipality in Santo Domingo province. Caucedo Port is the country’s main freight container port.
The law enforcement agents and military personnel, supported by canine units, were carrying out verification work on dozens of containers for export as part of the reinforcement of interdiction operations, when they detected inconsistencies in one of them, immediately initiating the action protocol.
In the presence of a prosecutor, the container loaded with hundreds of banana boxes was opened, and 25 sacks and 13 packages of different colors and sizes were found inside, containing the 918 packages of the substance, which is presumed to be cocaine.
The shipment was headed to the port of Rotterdam, the DNCD said in a statement.
The DNCD, with the support of the Armed Forces, the Prosecutor’s Office, state intelligence agencies and international cooperation, says it has redoubled joint operations, managing to confiscate almost two tons of drugs so far in July 2024.
The agency highlights the support it receives from the senior management of Puerto Caucedo, that offer all their cooperation so that these operations can be carried out effectively and without impacting free trade.
The 918 packages seized in this new operation were sent under the custody chain to the National Institute of Forensic Sciences (INACIF) to confirm the kind and weight of the substance.
