Ministry of Environment has contracted with US caves expert George Veni to carry out a study on the Cuevas de Borbon (Pomier) anthropological reserve.
Minister of Environment Miguel Ceara Hatton met with Veni to highlight the actions taken to protect the cultural heritage site. Taino Indians left pictographs within the cave. For decades, the cave system has been under the threat of sand extraction companies that operate in the area. Dominican cave specialist, Domingo Abreu has championed the conservation of the Pomier caves. He will be assisting Veni in the carrying out of the study.
