The president of the Senate, Ricardo de los Santos (PRM-Sanchez Ramirez) says the extra pay the senators receive for use at their discretion, better known as the “barrilito,” could be eliminated if the Senate decides so.
The remark came after El Informe, the investigative report by journalist Alicia Ortega, reminded tax payers of the wasteful spending nature of these funds that mostly serve for political patronage of the incumbents.
