President Luis Abinader has inaugurated a Migrant Processing Center in Haina, San Cristóbal municipality at a cost of more than RD$88 million.
According to Migration Agency director Venancio Alcántara, the center was built to international standards to provide a more humane facility for both nationals and foreigners undergoing processing.
The new facility has a capacity for 2,500 individuals, with separate halls for men and women, an area for children to be handed over to Unicef, and another for repatriated Dominicans, said the official.
Alcántara emphasized that since assuming leadership at Migration, efforts have been focused on enhancing transparency and optimizing services.
He noted an increase in deportations and underscored Migration’s vigilant oversight of foreign entries and exits, highlighting strengthened policies for receiving repatriated Dominicans.
He said the new Migrant Processing Center embodies a commitment to justice, legality, and respect for human rights.
