President Abinader: We favor whoever wins the US elections

Speaking during the La Semanal weekly press conference, President Luis Abinader declined to endorse either Republicans or Democrats as winners of the upcoming US elections on Monday, stating simply that his preference is “whoever wins.”

Abinader emphasized the good relations that have existed with the United States over the years.

He experienced this in his Presidency. He explained his government began in August 2020 with President Trump of the Republican Party in power and how when President Joe Biden began his term in January 2021, the good relations continued.

Abinader stressed the importance of a peaceful outcome in the upcoming election, saying, “Whatever the result, what we want is for it to be peaceful, and we will have the best of relations with whoever democratically wins in that nation.”

He also noted the Dominican Republic’s solidarity with the United States during challenging times, such as when former President Trump was targeted in an attack during a political event in Pennsylvania.

Dominicans are following closely the outcome of the presidential elections in the United States. The welfare of the United States is crucial for the welfare of the Dominican Republic. The US is the DR’s main trading partner, and where the largest volume of investments, tourists and migrants live.
