Foreign Minister Roberto Alvarez calls for persecuting people smugglers

In the recap of his four-year term as Minister of Foreign Relations to the monthly luncheon audience of the American Chamber of Commerce, Foreign Minister Roberto Alvarez called for a major change in the way government deals with migration. As reported in Diario Libre, Alvarez called for a change in the way illegal migration is persecuted. He urged vigorous persecution of people smugglers take prevalence over deportation efforts.

In his address to the business group, Minister Alvarez emphasized the critical need to combat migrant trafficking. The urgency of the situation is underscored as he highlighted the escalating challenges posed by illegal migration.

Alvarez stated: “Reversing the focus is necessary to once again stop the turning point of irregular migration. If we don’t effectively fight traffic and trafficking, all of these things will be dangerous. The illegal trafficking of migrants and trafficking of people are serious crimes against the nation.”

President Luis Abinader was present for the Wednesday, 24 July 2024 gathering of the business group.
