The National Institute for Forensic Sciences confirmed that the contents were, indeed, illegal drugs. Units of the National Drug Control Agency (DNCD), the Dominican Navy, and the Dominican Air Force all participated in the major drug busts, and those drug smugglers were sent to the Justice Department for processing. These included Colombians and Dominicans at last count.
The biggest bust was when the authorities intercepted what is known as a “fast boat” (a sleek hull with three or more outboard motors) that was carrying over a metric ton of cocaine off the coast of La Altagracia province.
