Alexander Ogando in semi-final of 200m

With a time of 20.04, Dominican sprinter, 24-year old Alexander Ogando advanced and will run in the semi-final of the 200m in the Paris Olympics on 7 August 2024 (2pm Dominican time).

His time was the third best in the first round heats, only behind that of USA’s Kenneth Bednarek, 19.96 (+0.2), and Erriyon Knighton, 19.99. Placing fourth was USA’s Noah Lyles, who had won gold in the 100m dash on Sunday, 4 August 2024.

Ogando competed in Heat 4, in which USA’s Kenneth Bednarek clocked 19.96, the best time in the preliminary round.

Today coached by two-time Olympics gold medal winner Felix Sanchez (400m hurdles), Alexander Ogando is a second-time Olympian. In the Tokyo 2021 Olympics, he ran the anchor leg for the 4 x 400 mixed relay (Lidio Andres Feliz, Marileidy Paulino, Anabel Medina and Alexis Ogando) that grabbed the silver medal, only to be defeated by the Poland team. Team USA placed third in that relay.

Yeral Nuñez, in the repechage heat in the Olympics on Tuesday morning (Dominican time) clocked in at 53.68, and did not make it to the semi-final in the 400 m hurdles. His personal best in the event is 48.26 and his season’s best had been 48.58.
