President Luis Abinader and Tony Peña, the coordinator of the Social Policy Cabinet under the Presidency, inaugurated the first Center for Comprehensive Development for Women (CEDI-MUJER) today. Located on Francisco Lora Avenue in La Otra Banda, Santiago, the new initiative is funded by the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB).
The project represents a collaborative effort between the Social Policy Cabinet and various state institutions, all working toward transforming the lives of Dominican women with the backing of President Abinader’s government, according to a press release.
Politician Peña highlighted that the center stands as a testament to the administration’s commitment to improving the quality of life for Dominican women through the social protection institution he leads. He also announced that a second center will soon be opened in Santo Domingo Norte, extending the reach of this transformative initiative.
Operations at the new center will be managed exclusively by women, with a focus on employing local community members from surrounding areas, Peña noted. The center is expected to begin offering services once logistical preparations are complete.
In the press release, Cedi-Mujer is designed as a safe space for women, staffed entirely by women, and operates under a model that integrates and coordinates services from various institutions. The center is strategically positioned to provide a comprehensive care plan tailored to each woman’s needs, promoting their full development.
Ana Lendor, the center’s director, emphasized that this project represents a significant step toward transformation and development in the Dominican Republic. “We are committed to creating an environment where every woman who walks through these doors feels a mantle of security and opportunity,” she stated.
Minister of Women Mayra Jiménez noted that recent years have seen significant progress and changes, posing challenges to further reduce inequalities and violence. “Cedi-Mujer is established as an innovative model for female well-being and empowerment, organizing high-quality services in a single space,” she said.
To access Cedi-Mujer services, Dominican women can schedule appointments through OGTIC by calling *462 or visiting the Cedi-Mujer website. Each user will be assigned a unique code within the interoperability platform to track their progress and needs. The continuous support from the social work team ensures that each user receives the appropriate care and positively impacts their quality of life.
The project involves other state institutions, whose personnel will be present at the center, including the Office of the Attorney General (PGR), the Ministry of Women (MMujer), the Ministry of Public Health (Mispas), the Institute of Technical Professional Training (Infotep), the Superate Program, Solidarity Points, the National Council for Children, Adolescents and Family (Conani), the Ministry of Industry, Commerce and SMEs (MIC), the National Health Insurance (Senasa), and the National Institute for Early Childhood Care (Inaipi).
