The President Luis Abinader second term inaugural is bringing special guests from abroad to the country and the government has scheduled multiple activities. This will affect activities in the capital city, particularly on 16 August 2024, the day of the inaugural. The good news is that the 16th is a national holiday, so this will reduce normal traffic congestion.
Those who can should avoid circulating in the environs of the National Theater and the Colonial City.
The National Institute of Transit and Land Transport (Intrant) is announcing alternate routes for those who need to commute through these areas.
A press release from Intrant explains that vehicle traffic on 16 August 2024 will be restricted around the National Theater on Máximo Gómez Avenue and the National Congress on Jiménez Moya Avenue. As a result, the public is advised to use Independence Avenue, George Washington Avenue, and Abraham Lincoln Avenue as alternative routes.
Additional detours have been established on Horacio Vicioso and Héroes de Luperón streets in the National District.
Furthermore, as of, Thursday, 15 August, the Intrant is implementing a special traffic plan to facilitate the flow of vehicles due to activities taking place in the Colonial City.
Eastbound travelers are advised to use Pedro Henríquez Ureña, Mexico and 27 de Febrero avenues as of Máximo Gómez Avenue (where the National Theater is located). Westbound travelers are recommended to use Mexico Avenue.
Intrant has coordinated with local authorities for this plan of intermittent street closures. The agency requests the public’s understanding and explains that this measure is part of its efforts to ensure safe travel for all.
Citizens are also asked to avoid parking in restricted areas and to refrain from performing any work on public roads without prior authorization.
