Agents from the National Drug Control Agency (DNCD), along with members of the Multimodal Caucedo Port Military Security, Customs Agency inspectors, and the Public Ministry (state prosecutors), seized 84 packages of cocaine weighing approximately 86.31 kilograms. The drugs were discovered during an inspection at the port located in Boca Chica, Santo Domingo province.
As part of heightened port interdiction operations, authorities were conducting routine checks on dozens of export containers when a suspicious anomaly was detected in one of them using an X-ray machine. A subsequent search carried out in the presence of a prosecutor, led to the discovery of the cocaine concealed within a false compartment in a container filled with mangoes and yams.
According to the DNCD, the shipment was destined for Canada. This latest seizure highlights the ongoing efforts by Dominican authorities to combat international drug trafficking networks that often disguise narcotics within legitimate commercial shipments of agricultural products.
Investigations are currently underway to identify and apprehend those involved in this drug trafficking ring. Dominican authorities have intensified surveillance and interdiction operations at airports and ports, resulting in significant blows to criminal organizations.
Given its geographical situation, the Dominican Republic is under siege by drug traffickers that seek to ship the product to the United States, Europe and Canada.
