Armando Paino Henriquez: New Minister of Environment pledges commitment to sustainability

The newly appointed Minister of Environment on his first day at work pledged to work towards a greener future and positioning the nation as a beacon of sustainability, according to the press release covering his inaugural speech as Minister of Environment.

“This is a moment that reinforces our political and social convictions,” Paino Henríquez stated. “We are on a path of certainty, generating the changes that our Dominican Republic demands.” He expressed his enthusiasm for serving the community and his intention to build upon the work of his predecessors, highlighting the waste management efforts of Miguel Ceara Hatton and the inspiring legacy of Orlando Jorge Mera.

Henríquez assured that his focus will be on maintaining and strengthening existing public policies, with a steadfast commitment to environmental protection. “There will be no radical changes or personal agendas. My task is to continue and deepen the efforts already initiated, ensuring the protection of our natural resources for future generations,” he emphasized.

A call to action for sustainability
“We will be the zealous protectors of one of our country’s greatest assets: the environment,” the new minister pointed out, adding, “We will not hesitate to enforce the full weight of the law in defense of our natural resources.”

In his inaugural speech, Henríquez expressed his commitment to several key areas, including watershed management, protected areas, and climate change adaptation. He announced the promotion of the Dominican Sustainable Plan and the renewal of the Sustainable Production and Consumption Roadmap, in addition to fostering green jobs and responsible business practices.

Addressing the Ministry of Environment staff, Henríquez called for collaboration to achieve an integrated vision of sustainable development that is environmentally friendly and beneficial to all Dominicans. “Our work is not only a challenge but an opportunity to make a real difference,” he concluded.
