Speeding Ferrari crashes on the Av. Abraham Lincoln; driver demands media respect his privacy

Lawyers representing a driver of a Ferrari that on Sunday evening, 25 August 2024, when speeding on the Av. Abraham Lincoln crashed into a light pole, have demanded the removal of the video showing the crash that was originally posted on AccidentesRD, a channel that seeks to create awareness and safe driving.

In the incident, only the Ferrari was damaged and the driver apparently did not suffer any major injury. In the past, speeding of expensive vehicles on the Av. Abraham Lincoln late at night has resulted in injuries and deaths, and major losses for innocent bystanders.

Several news commentators question the legitimacy of the request given the newsworthiness of the happening.

As reported in Hoy, lawyer Anny Guzman argues on behalf of her client in her request for removing from the media the video of the speeding Ferrari that Art. 44 of the Constitution guarantees respect for the intimacy of the person and self-image.

Lawyer Jose Martinez Brito told El Veedor Digital the issue is about the insurance that covers the vehicle. The insurance would not pay if evidence of violating speed rules is produced.

As reported, the vehicle was imported in the name of a Parlacen deputy, Elsido Antonio Díaz Bueno of the Partido Moda, a minority political party. Deputies and senators are authorized to import two vehicles with no ceiling on the value during their term. Usually, these are later transacted with car dealers who have wealthy clients.

Listin Diario reports that Elsido Diaz says he sold the tax exemption to a third party that later negotiated the exemption for the import and is not the owner of the Ferrari Sf90 Stradale year 2022.

The incident was much commented on social media given the growing opposition for the Dominican Republic to continue being part of the Parlacen, considered by most just more wasteful spending. There is also much criticism of the legislators continuing to get the unlimited vehicle tax exonerations.

Esto No es Radio YouTube channel reported on the accident and the video that went viral not for the accident but due to the intention of the owner that sought to have the video be erased from media. Esto No es Radio program criticized that drag races continue on the Av. Abraham Lincoln with the apparent complacency of the Digesett and the Intrant that have the technology in place to prevent these actions that put innocent bystanders in danger.

As reported, the video was originally posted on AccidentesRD Instagram channel, but Anibal Germosen, the owner said he removed it after being threatened by lawyers.

The identity of the speeding Ferrari driver has not been revealed.
