Civic group demands answers on continued contract with Transcore

Participación Ciudadana calls for a thorough explanation as to why the government continued its contract with Transcore Latam for the management of Santo Domingo’s traffic light system.

The non-partisan civic group has expressed deep concerns over the ongoing relationship between the National Institute of Transit and Transport (Intrant) and Transcore Latam, despite previous announcements of a contract suspension.

Participación Ciudadana is insisting that the public deserves to know the extent to which the contract has been executed, the payments made, and the specific reasons that led to the government allowing a company with a questionable reputation to retain control of such a critical public service.

The organization has pointed out that the Procurement Agency (DGCP) had previously suspended the RD$1.3 billion contract due to irregularities, including the fact that Transcore Latam was created just months before the bidding process and that one of its official owners was an Intrant employee.

In a press release, the civic group, affiliated with Transparency International, criticized the government spokesperson, Homero Figueroa, for providing “superficial” explanations that fail to address the public’s need for transparency and accountability in the use of public funds.
