The National Institute of Transit and Land Transportation (Intrant) has issued a 24-hour ultimatum to truck drivers illegally parking their vehicles on public roads, particularly along Las Américas and Luperón avenues in Greater Santo Domingo.
This directive comes in response to numerous citizen complaints on social media regarding the frequent obstruction of traffic by large trucks and freight trailers parked on sidewalks and roadways. The most recent incident involved a collision between a vehicle and a container placed in the middle of the Las Americas Expressway, highlighting the severe risks posed by the practice.
Intrant director Milton Morrison expressed deep concern over the recent incident, emphasizing the need for strict enforcement of the country’s traffic laws. “This unfortunate event underscores the urgent need to ensure the proper use of our streets and avenues, and to comply with all traffic regulations,” said Morrison.
Morrison warned that the agency will take firm action against violators, in accordance with Law 63-17 on Mobility, Land Transportation, Traffic, and Road Safety. He also called on freight companies and other relevant entities to refrain from traveling on public roads without the necessary permits.
The Intrant, in collaboration with the Traffic Safety and Land Transportation Agency (Digesett), says it will be conducting regular inspections in high-risk areas to ensure compliance with traffic laws.
The agency is encouraging citizens to report any traffic violations or hazardous conditions that may compromise road safety. Public vigilance is crucial in fostering a culture of responsible driving and ensuring the well-being of all road users.
