Rainy November: Tropical wave and front continue to bring rains

The Dominican Republic is bracing for heavy rainfall and potential flooding as a tropical wave and an approaching cold front combine to create unstable weather conditions across the country, the National Weather Institute (Indomet) reports.

Indomet has issued weather alerts and advisories for multiple provinces, warning of moderate to heavy downpours, thunderstorms, and strong wind gusts. These adverse weather conditions are expected to persist throughout the day and into the evening.

Areas already experiencing heavy rainfall include La Altagracia, La Romana, Monte Plata, Hato Mayor, and the National District. However, the heaviest precipitation is forecast to occur in the afternoon and early evening, affecting provinces such as Pedernales, Barahona, Bahoruco, Elías Piña, San Juan de la Maguana, Azua, Peravia, San Cristóbal, San Pedro de Macorís, Samaná, María Trinidad Sánchez, Duarte, and Puerto Plata.

The combination of a tropical wave lingering over Haiti and a cold front moving into the region has led to increased moisture and instability in the atmosphere. These conditions are conducive to the development of heavy rainfall and thunderstorms.

Temperatures will remain cool and pleasant, especially in mountainous areas and their valleys.

Looking ahead, a cold front is expected to approach the Dominican Republic on Wednesday, further enhancing the instability and leading to more widespread rainfall, particularly in the northern region, the Central Cordillera, and the border zone. Nighttime showers are anticipated along the Atlantic coast, with the possibility of strong thunderstorms and gusty winds.

Residents are advised to monitor weather forecasts closely and take necessary precautions to protect themselves and their property from potential flooding and strong winds.
