Weather improves: Scattered morning showers, afternoon rains forecast

The National Weather Institute (Indomet) says that the Dominican Republic will experience a mix of sunny skies and scattered showers throughout Wednesday, 13 November 2024. While the morning hours are expected to be mostly dry, with any rainfall being brief and localized, conditions are set to change dramatically in the afternoon.

The forecast follows a sunny day on Tuesday, 12 November in the capital city, despite forecasts for intense rains.

Indomet says that a trough moving north of the Dominican Republic is forecast to bring a surge of cloud cover and precipitation. Residents of the Central Mountain Range, border regions, southeast, and northeast can anticipate cloudy skies, moderate to heavy showers, thunderstorms, and isolated wind gusts. These weather conditions are expected to persist into the evening, primarily affecting areas from Monte Cristi to La Altagracia. Indomet says that coastal provinces along the Caribbean Sea are likely to experience more stable weather with limited rainfall.

Looking ahead to tomorrow, Thursday, 14 November 2024, a frontal system will bring increased cloudiness from the early morning hours. As a result, areas including Montecristi, Puerto Plata, Espaillat (Moca), María Trinidad Sánchez (Salcedo), Samaná, Hato Mayor, El Seibo, and La Altagracia (Higuey and Punta Cana) can expect light to moderate showers and isolated thunderstorms, even during the morning.

While rainfall may be less frequent along the Caribbean coast, the afternoon and evening will see a significant increase in cloud cover, showers, thunderstorms, and gusty winds across the country, Indomet stresses in its report on 13 November 2024.
