The members of the Central Electoral Board for 2024-2028

The president of the Senate of the Dominican Republic, Ricardo de los Santos, officially swore in the new members of the Central Electoral Board (JCE) for the 2024-2028 term on 13 November 2024.

The plenary of the JCE is now made up of Román Andrés Jáquez Liranzo, who will serve a second consecutive term as the JCE’s president, along with Dolores Altagracia Fernández Sánchez, Samir Rafael Chami Isa, Rafael Armando Vallejo Santelises and Hirayda Marcelle Fernández Guzmán, the only newcomer to the five-member board.

In addition to the main board members, substitute members of the JCE were also sworn in: Prado Antonio López Cornielle, Cristian Perdomo Hernández, Iván Vladimir Féliz Vargas, Anibelca Rosario, and Tony Tejeda.

De los Santos emphasized the critical role of the JCE in strengthening democracy and ensuring transparency and efficiency in managing the country’s electoral processes.

In his speech, Jáquez Liranzo expressed that it was both an honor and a responsibility to be chosen for the JCE’s leadership for the upcoming term. He stressed the board’s commitment to upholding the Constitution and the law, ensuring the integrity and credibility of the electoral process, and working to maintain public trust in the institution.

“Rest assured, our adherence will be to the Constitution and the laws, which will serve as the foundation for strengthening the legitimacy of the JCE and its credibility as the guardian of Dominican identity and electoral integrity. We are committed to regaining the confidence of the Dominican people,” said Jáquez Liranzo.

He also noted that the board’s success would not be judged by how they entered office, but by how they leave it, emphasizing that institutional credibility and trust are earned, not imposed.

Román Jáquez is the first president of the JCE to serve two consecutive terms.
