There was hope that with contestant Celinee Santos the Dominican Republic would clinch a second Miss Universe title. The first and only Miss Universe title for the DR was won by Amelia Vega in 2003.
But it didn’t happen on Saturday, 16 November 2024 when the pageant was televised from Mexico City. Miss Denmark was the winner, with Miss Nigeria and Miss Mexico the runner-up queens.
Santos did not make it past being in the top 30 in the final day. She had been mentioned along with the representatives of Peru, Puerto Rico and Venezuela as among the favorites to replace outgoing Sheynis Palacios of Nicaragua.
