Prosecutors end strike after reaching agreement with Attorney General

Prosecutors have resumed their duties in prosecutors’ offices and courthouses nationwide after ending a strike, following an agreement with Attorney General Miriam Germán Brito, president of the Superior Council of the Public Ministry (CSMP). The strike was called over demands for salary increases.

Court prosecutor Francisco Rodríguez, a member of the Dominican Prosecutors Association (Fiscaldom), announced that a 20% salary increase was agreed upon, with implementation set to begin next year.

A second point of agreement concerns pension, retirement, and severance funds, which will also be implemented in early 2025. A start date of 9 March is proposed and the plan will be carried out as established in the regulations, taking into account age and years of service, given that most members of the Public Ministry are elderly and have over 20 years of service.

The third point addresses the economic aspect, with a call to the Executive Branch to provide more funding to the Public Ministry so that it can increase salaries as agreed upon with Attorney General Miriam Germán Brito.

The fourth point concerns promotions for prosecutors, for which a formula has been established to address those who have not been promoted for five to seven years. Promotions will be applied retroactively from January.

The four fundamental points of their demands, nevertheless, will be honed during another meeting with Attorney General Miriam Germán Brito set for Friday, 6 December 2024.

For three days, prosecutors halted the investigation of cases and caused the postponement of scheduled proceedings.
