Opret sets key structures for future Santo Domingo Metro expansion

The Office for the Reordering of Transportation (Opret) announced the installation of the first two girders at the intersection of the extended 27 de Febrero Avenue and the Duarte Highway. This significant milestone marks a key step in the construction of Metro Line 2C, which will connect Los Alcarrizos to the capital’s mass transit system.

Furthermore, Opret has outlined a strategic plan for future integration with the Metropolitan Train, a project announced by President Luis Abinader that is currently in the development phase.

The installation of these girders aims to ensure uninterrupted service on Metro Line 2 during the construction of the future line that will connect the extended 27 de Febrero Avenue to Plaza de la Bandera in one of its phases. This strategy guarantees seamless integration between existing and future lines, aligning with the new master plan for expanding Santo Domingo’s mass transit system.

“The placement of these girders reflects Opret’s commitment to strategic planning and sustainable development. This step is crucial for the interconnection of the current Metro Lines 1 and 2, the Santo Domingo Cable Car Lines 1 and 2, the recently announced Cable Car Line 3, and the future Metropolitan Train, which will be a fundamental pillar of urban transportation in the capital,” emphasized Ing. Rafael Santos Pérez, executive director of Opret.

The official also highlighted the unwavering support of President Luis Abinader, whose backing has been essential for the realization of these key infrastructure projects.

These works not only represent an advancement in citizen mobility but also solidify the vision of an efficient, sustainable, and fully integrated public transportation system, benefiting the entire nation.
