The Central Electoral Board (JCE) just released a statement regarding the statistics that cover civilian activities registered on their books in the Dominican Republic for the year 2024.
It seems that marriages were more popular than divorces. Of course, these are the official numbers and do not cover all of the more casual numbers of those people who are “dating” or who are living together. There were 43,000 marriages and 27,000 divorces in the period covered in the report.
There were also more than 142 thousand births registered, and surprisingly, there were more little boys than girls (around 72.5 thousand to 69.5 thousand).
The National District was the leader in births registered with slightly over ten thousand, and the tiny communities of Los Llanos in Elias Piña and La Cueva in the municipality of Cevicos were tied for the least number of births registered with just two thousand each.
Regarding the names people gave their children, Maria for girls and Jose for boys continue to be the most popular names. Yet Liam and Angel were popular names for boys in 2024. Emma, Esther, Sofia and Zoe were popular names for girls in 2024.
